Ain’t Pancakes is the solo side-project of Jeremy Hunt, from the noise rock/experimental band QOHELETH. Jeremy experiments with aggressive yet atmospheric blend of glitch-hop, noise, samples, and synths to create a slow-but-brightly burning piece of music that applies the energy of droning sludge metal to an electronic sound scape.
This particular AP experience is a collection of field recordings, noise samplings, and fuzzed-out riffs and mood pieces that I pieced together over a year or two ago. In one sense, this represents the last of the solo stuff that I worked on while still in California and in that sense, this is a very bittersweet piece for me. I loved our time in CA and miss it so much.
Thematically, this mixtape also goes further back into my past, reflecting on one of the first times I remember being really scared: watching the 1960 version of The Time Machine. I was about four or five, and I sat down one Saturday to watch it with my dad. We reached the part of the story where the Morlocks come above ground at night, snatch the Eloi who were outside the city, and drag them to the depths below where they forced them to work and then ate them. It terrified me and I could sleep for about a week. It’s become a story of family lord, which is hilarious. But at the same time, I’ve often wondered if my love of horror, sci-fi, and all things weird can be traced back (at least in part) to this experience.
And therein lies the theme of this tape: we are often shaped by our fears. It’s a very human experience to be frightened out of our minds but how do we allow those fears to mold and form us moving forward? I hope that “Holy Roller Heebie Jeebies, Vol. 2” provides an auditory space to wrestle with that question. Thanks for listening…

Like the score to an eerie dungeon crawl game for the Game Boy, this album is both exhilarating and terrifying. It will cause the hair on the back of your neck to stand on end, but for a multitude of reasons. An excellent listening experience when alone on a rainy day. Kirk Gauthier
